Choices

We make millions of choices every day, often time without much awareness, thought or discernment about those decisions.  Some choices are now habits and don't feel like much of a choice.  Some choices take great deliberation and even after made leave us wondering if we "chose wisely" or not.

What is choices were not about good or bad, right or wrong, but simply paths to new experiences and lessons that we needed to learn.  Labeling everything keeps us from truly learning the deeper meaning because it allows us to once again, mindlessly throw something into a box of assumption & singular in identity.  I'm beginning to discover that nothing is singular in identity even when we try to make it so, nothing is as simple and singular as we'd like it to be.  Once again, our search for stability, for ground when in fact, there is nothing constant except change.

Example 1:
A women who has been "in recovery" for many years CHOOSES to let go of that identity because it no longer fits her truth about her Self and her path.
LABEL/JUDGMENT #1: She has lost her mind and is throwing her life away.  She's doomed.
LABEL #2: She has found her self & new coping skills that allow her to think & act in her own wisdom.
LABEL #3: God bless her Soul.

Example 2:
A successful doctor decides to leave traditional medicine/healthcare & goes to India to study spiritual practices of how to heal the Self with the Higher Self.
LABEL #1: He is wasting his time, money & God-given talent for a foolish whim.
LABEL #2: He is listening to the shifting nature of his work as a healer.
LABEL #3: May he find what he is searching for in his travels.

You get the picture.  Every choice we make is received with different responses and judgments not only from the outside but the internalized social, familial or cultures messages we develop over the years.  In order for one to act on their Truth, they must be deeply in touch with their Higher Self, their God consciousness and have immense faith that no choice they make is a failure but a vital part of their process and journey in this lifetime.

What choices have you made in your life? How were they received inside and outside you? How do you respond when you hear of the choices of others? Which ones strive love and compassion in you? Which ones arouse judgment or longing or jealousy in you? Is there a personal connection somewhere in there that could teach you something about your Self and how you choose for or against your Truths as they arise?

Share your insights and awarenesses, even the ones that are still forming.

  1. One of the most enriching exercises that I've taken on in my day-to-day is to be aware of my 'labels' and 'routines'...and toss them out. Without fail, when I recognize a label that I've placed upon a person or thing, my awareness of that label (and the removal of it) has allowed the object to transform into something more beautiful in my eyes. Noticing 'routines' works much the same way. When I see that I've developed a habit...e.g., reading the paper every morning at the same time, or taking a certain route to work...I change it up. The result is seeing something new or in a new way.

The benefit, as I see it, is that not only are you removing your limitations on the world, you're also learning to live fearlessly and maybe even finding that road less traveled.

    Namaste.
